The Sussex Beacon Case Study

The Sussex Beacon is a very well respected charity; a unique resource for people living with HIV in Sussex. The charity has a £1.7 million turnover and their NHS income is 40%.

The trustees believe that there is a risk of disinvestment of public and NHS funds and wish to increase the fundraising activity and capability so that the Beacon could survive a loss of £200-300k of public funding. To mitigate this potential risk at the start of 2019 they sought consultants to produce a strategy, with clear targets and timetabled action plans.

Work included:

  • Completing an audit including talking to internal and external stakeholders
  • Reviewing the organisation’s ‘Untapped Potential’
  • Writing a report highlighting a range of Challenges, Opportunities and Recommendations
  • Setting out three Investment Options for expenditure in fundraising and expected income targets underpinned by the recommendations.
